Scholarships & Grants
Jim Smith, E’88, and Amie Miller Smith, AMD’87, met in the stacks of the old Dodge Library. The two bonded through their unmatched friendliness, eagerness to help others, and passion for Northeastern. Today the two provide transformative opportunities to Galante Fellows through the James P. Smith and Amie Miller Smith Scholarship. The Smith Scholarship helps eliminate barriers many Galante students face in making a Northeastern education more accessible and supports Galante students’ innovative ideas, academic paths, and career goals.
Eric Fichtel Scholarship
This generous award has been made available by Eric Fichtel who graduated from the Northeastern College of Engineering in 1993. Mr. Fichtel is a strong proponent of interdisciplinary education, and as such the purpose of the scholarship is to serve students who are historically under-represented in engineering. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and full-time undergraduate or graduate students at Northeastern enrolled in the Galante Engineering Business program.
The purpose of the competition is to encourage teamwork and collaboration among fellows, while enhancing knowledge surrounding soft skills for engineers and presentation skills. Teams need to submit a proposal outlining their presentation topic and ideas. Proposals should focus on a topic of interest in engineering business, for example soft skills for engineers, rapid prototyping, cyber-security and business, business analytics for decision making, etc.
The Galante Training Grant is intended to strengthen professional skills and enhance the technical acumen of Fellows and is granted to each fellow upon admission into the program. This grant aids students in the pursuit of certifications, professional development trainings, and attending workshops and conferences. The value of the Galante Training Grant is $1,000 per new Fellow, with an additional $500 for mentors.
